Advertising is defined as the business of informing and bringing public attention to goods and services and encouraging potential customers take action. Blogs need advertising to call attention to them. They need to bring in potential customers. Writing amazing content isn’t enough, though very important. So what are the keys to blog advertising? What helps the most and offers the best results?

Before beginning to advertise, the blogger needs to figure out first, what is the ‘core message’? Secondly, they must consider the concept of the ‘brand’. And thirdly, repeat the message often in many varied and far-reaching venues. The core message is the basic ‘point’ of the blog. Perhaps it is to sell a product or service. That product or service becomes the ‘core’. The blogger must consider several aspects of the core message: who is the target audience? Why are they interested in this blog/product or service? What message will appeal to them most? Everything related to that product or service must be consistent- from the title and subtitle of the blog, through the design, content and email communications. Every one has to repeat the same message without fail. This consistent message establishes the ‘brand’, which is what is being advertised. This is not enough though. Why will this interest the target audience? What is it about the brand that will attract their attention? What colors, graphics and text will appeal to them? How can those reinforce the core message? What will make them more likely to visit and purchase?

The concept of repetition or ‘advertising’ becomes critical as the way to introduce, nurture and promote the blog/brand/product or service. Advertising can take many forms some of which include: submitting the blog to search engines and boosting rankings and positions; submitting to blog directories; joining and participating in a bloggers forum; visiting other blogs with similar content and making related comments; add the site link to the email signature and to hard copy business cards; joining an exchange link program; pinging the site every time it is updated; posting on social networking sites; posting press releases; writing articles and submitting to article directories; and advertise in on-line classified ad sites.

Blog advertising is equally as important as content and posting frequently. But before advertising, determine the core message, design and establish the brand and tie it all together into a consistent and cohesive message for the greatest success.
